HACEY’S MAIDEN WORLD AIDS DAY EVENT
HEALTH ACTIONS CONCERNING THE ENVIRONMENT AND YOU (HACEY) held her first World AIDS Event on 30th November, 2007 and December 1st 2007, the International World AIDS Day. The theme for the event was ‘HIV/AIDS: CHALLENGES AND CHANCES’. It’s objective was to sensitise students about HIV/AIDS, inform them on how to prevent being infected, how to treat people living with HIV/AID in order to avoid stigma and to empower students to pass on the information in order to achieve a world free from AIDS.
The event targeted students
in secondary and tertiary institution in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. Students from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology also attended the event.
Guests from Hope Alive Foundation,
Ilorin, Institute of Medical Research, Lagos and the University of Ilorin
College of Health Sciences attended the event.
The first day of the 2-day event was held at the African Hall, University of Ilorin. 307 people participated at the event.
The second day of the event was held at Lecture Room 5 of the University of Ilorin. 133 guests were in attendance at the event.
During the event, pamphlets obtained from KWASACA and articles on HIV/AIDS written by HACEY members were shared as resource materials
During programme, there was free HIV/AIDS test, educative drama, speech on
HIV/AIDS, interpretive
dance on HIV/AIDS , questions
and answers from the invited experts, interactive sessions and group discussions with the topic: HIV/AIDS:
STOPPING THE STIGMA. power
point presentaion on the need to abstain from sex as the best cure was also used during the program.
