HIV/AIDS

Nigeria has the second-largest HIV epidemic in the world and one of the highest rates of new infection in sub-Saharan Africa. In 2021, there were about 74,000 new HIV infections. Nigeria continues to fall short of providing the recommended number of HIV testing and counselling sites, and so many people living with HIV in Nigeria are unaware of their status. Low levels of access to antiretroviral treatment remain an issue for people living with HIV in Nigeria, leading to a lot of AIDS-related deaths.

Through our HIV Counselling Testing (HIVCT) Initiatives, we create awareness and support testing. These initiatives focus on:

  • Education and awareness amongst vulnerable groups to end the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS that creates a barrier to testing and accessing care.
  • Leveraging traditional and new media to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment options, particularly reaching young people where they are most engaged.
  • Increasing Access to Testing through free screening program
  • Advocacy for policies that ensure greater access to SRH services, including HIV testing and treatment.
